Kilian has been passionate about nature and the mountains for as long as he can remember. Kilian no longer counts his hours on high mountain cliffs, hanging on to his ice axes and crampons on his feet in a north face.

At 22, mountaineering and ice climbing with his rope partner, Hubert Boixeda, are his favourite sports. But he is above all a caver who loves to explore the bowels of the earth and siphons by diving underground.

His ambition to discover the deepest caves has turned into a desire to climb the most beautiful peaks, the most beautiful routes and the most beautiful faces, taking mythical courses. Kilian decided to leave Avignon, the South and the heat to settle in Grenoble and get closer to the mountains to develop his skills. Still a student in master STAPS Management of Sport (tourism and mountain), he is also adept at sport and traditional climbing, canyoning, and ski touring.

Interview with Kilian
3 words that define you as an athlete?
Passionate. Perfectionist. Ambitious.
3 values that fit you as a person?
Perseverance, helping others, responsibility.
Why do you feel you belong to the Cimalp family?
At Cimalp, we find a family of enthusiasts, lovers of the mountains and outdoor sports, whether it be trail riding, mountaineering or even skiing and hiking. A family that wishes to make the mountain accessible to all to allow everyone to marvel at the beauty of nature. Cimalp also reflects values that are dear to me such as those of sharing and passion for the sport and it is through them that I feel I belong to the Cimalp family.
Your best and worst mountain memories and why?
My best memory is a complicated question! I would say when I reached the summit of the North Face of the Ailefroide in the Écrins with my rope partner, Hubert. After a storm the day before, sleeping in a snow hole at almost 3000m, we climbed the face as best we could on a beautiful but very tiring line with a 2 am start. When we arrived at the top of the route, in the fog and under the snow, it was really an accomplishment for us... like a deliverance! All that was left to do was to abseil the South face to reach the hut before nightfall. As for my worst memory, I think it was when I broke down after rappelling at the end of the day in the Ecrins massif. It was however a very beautiful icefall that we had just done. But a small mistake of inattention made me slip on a slope for more than 80m. I had the right to a helicopter ride, a nice cast on my left leg and many wounds and other scratches. Just a reminder that the mountains can be dangerous.
What do mountains inspire you?
Freedom is the desire to go higher and higher and climb all the most beautiful peaks on the horizon. The desire to escape, to venture where no one else goes to take in the sights. The mountains are my playground, my favourite place to spend my most beautiful days and nights.
What is your relationship to the environment and ecology?
As a student in the field of mountain tourism, I am immersed in the ecological transition of mountain tourism faced with the impact of climate change. It is therefore a crucial aspect for me. Nature and mountains are wonderful spaces that we must protect by all means. I travel every day by bike to go to the university, for example, it is much better than using the car in traffic jams! This year I want to do as many mountain trips by bike as possible: start from my home by pedalling, continue on foot and then climb to the top of the mountains and thus not make any kilometres by car!
Another great passion/talent besides sports?
Study! (I am a student after all)
