How to clean your sunglasses?

Before and after each use of your sunglasses, it is important to give the lenses a quick clean to remove fingerprints, dust or light marks. To do this, simply use the microfibre cloth provided with the sunglasses at the time of purchase. To clean the lenses, rub gently using circular movements. If the dirt on the sunglasses is a little more stubborn, a deeper clean is needed. To do this, soap can be used. Here is how to proceed:

  • Place the sunglasses in cold or lukewarm water
  • Apply a few drops of soap to each lens: using your fingers, spread the soap evenly over the entire inner and outer surface of the lenses using circular movements
  • Then rinse the sunglasses thoroughly
  • Leave the sunglasses to air dry and if necessary, a microfibre or cotton cloth will do the job

Another option for keeping your sunglasses clean is to use dedicated cleaning sprays, available from retailers. These products are notably available from opticians. They have been specially designed to reinforce the lens coating, helping to extend their longevity. To use, spray a small amount of product onto each lens, making sure to spread it evenly over the entire surface to be cleaned. Then wipe the lenses with a microfibre cloth using circular movements. This helps avoid smearing or leaving marks.

What are the benefits of polarised lenses?

Polarised lenses were created to eliminate the glare caused by the reflection of sunlight. They provide better visual comfort and reduce eye strain. Glare is a phenomenon that tires the eyes very quickly. It is made up of parasitic reflections that disturb vision and force you to squint to try to see more clearly. When it occurs repeatedly, it quickly becomes very bothersome. Wearing polarised lenses helps you see clearly without any effort. The visual comfort provided by polarised lenses also makes them perfectly suited to outdoor sports. At sea or in the mountains, polarised lenses are essential. Polarised lenses also significantly improve contrast. Furthermore, as they eliminate reflections, they make clear water appear even more translucent. The visual comfort they provide is also an advantage for perceiving all information clearly.

What are the different lens categories for sunglasses?

The protection rating indicates the tint of the sunglasses. Ranging from 0 to 4, it specifies the percentage of UV filtered by the lenses:

The category 0 : transparent or nearly so, filters a maximum of 0 to 20% of UV. This type of sunglasses is intended for very low light conditions, for prescription sunglasses, indoor sports or night running.

The category 1 : offers barely tinted protection, filtering 20 to 60% of brightness. It can be useful for protecting sensitive eyes in overcast or rainy conditions.

The category 2 : is the intermediate tint. It lets through approximately 60 to 80% of light and is suited to activities in moderate sunshine.

The category 3 : is the most common in bright sunshine. Suited to high luminosity, it filters an average of 80 to 90% of light and effectively protects the eyes to prevent glare.

The category 4 : filters almost all UV. Very dark, these lenses are prohibited for driving. They are mainly used for high-altitude mountain activities.
