What are the benefits of base layers for skiing?

The base layer — also known as the base layer or technical base layer — is designed to wick moisture away from the skin to the outside of the fabric, keeping you dry during physical effort. These garments are generally made from insulating materials that trap body heat and maintain a comfortable temperature. They work to prevent heat loss, keep you warm in cold weather and, thanks to their stretchy fabrics, offer excellent freedom of movement. They fit close to the body without being restrictive, allowing you to ski freely without discomfort or chafing. Some technical base layers are treated to be antibacterial, helping to reduce unpleasant odours even after a full day of intense activity.
