What is merino wool, and where does it come from?
Merino wool is a natural fibre that comes from the Merino sheep breed, originally from Spain, but now reared in many countries around the world. Merino wool is used in the manufacture of various items, such as socks, beanies, gloves and t-shirts, etc. It is considered one of the best natural fibres for outdoor activities. It is notably finer and softer than regular wool.
The benefits of the Merino t-shirt
Merino wool t-shirts are renowned for promoting air circulation (thermoregulation properties) and do not retain odours. This wool also allows for effective moisture wicking and prevents the garment from becoming saturated with water, even when perspiring during exercise. Moreover, even if you are sensitive to wool, no itching is felt.
Thanks to its anti-bacterial, merino wool does not encourage bacterial growth as it does not retain moisture. Your top does not need to be washed as regularly as other garments made from cotton or synthetic materials. This makes it the ideal trek t-shirt! Merino wool is a high-quality, stretchy natural material with incomparable softness. The t-shirt fabric is therefore breathable, comfortable and particularly wrinkle-free. Wool is not only anti-odour but also has good insulating properties. It is known for keeping you warm but in t-shirt form, merino wool also protects against heat with its thermoregulating effect.

How do you wash merino wool garments?
Follow these few tips for easy care with no nasty surprises. First, your machine must have a special wool / delicate textile programme or 30°C maximum. This wash cycle ensures very minimal mechanical action, which prevents excessive friction and sudden temperature changes for the fibre. Alternatively, you can hand wash your wool top. Turn your garments inside out before putting them in the machine.
Do not use fabric softeners or bleach. Use specialist wool detergent or pH-neutral soap. You can spin in the machine at no more than 600 rpm to avoid pilling. Do not use a tumble dryer as your garment may shrink. Dry your merino wool garment flat and away from direct sunlight to preserve the colours.
