A shower at the start, then wind on the ridge: choose a women’s running jacket for the conditions it needs to protect you from. This selection brings together women’s-fit styles, from waterproof jackets to packable windproof jackets; to compare them with other styles, see our range of trail jackets.
Women’s running jackets, waterproof jackets and thermal jackets
Compare these key features:
- Waterproof rating: 10,000 Schmerber for the STORM, 20,000 for the STORM PRO jackets.
- Breathability: from 12,500 to 80,000 g/m²/24 h.
- Wind resistance: sustained winds of 40–60 km/h for the SKIN and BLIZZARD; strong winds of 60–90 km/h for the WIND and STORM jackets.
- Weight in size S: from 60 g for the SKIN vest to 290 g for the BLIZZARD.
If you take just one jacket, choose a lightweight waterproof one: it also blocks strong winds.
Waterproof running jacket: STORM in CIMASHELL or STORM PRO in Ultrashell
In prolonged rain, only a membrane with sealed seams keeps your torso dry. The STORM weighs 185 g in size S: with a 10,000 Schmerber CIMASHELL membrane, taped seams and water-repellent YKK Aquaguard® zips, it packs into your trail backpack between showers. The STORM PRO steps up to three-layer Ultrashell, with a 20,000 Schmerber waterproof rating and breathability of 80,000 g/m²/24 h, plus a hood with a stiff peak and a two-way zip that opens from the bottom for access to your pack.
If you run with a loaded trail vest, choose the STORM PRO +: gussets at the back and front let it fit over the pack, while access zips let you reach your flasks. During intense efforts in the rain, every waterproof jacket traps some moisture: run with the zip open; the retaining tab keeps the jacket in place.
Women’s running windproof layers: SKIN, WIND or a sleeveless vest
In dry, windy weather, a waterproof jacket can quickly feel too warm. CIMAWIND windproof jackets block cold air, while their water-repellent DWR treatment sheds light rain. The SKIN VESTE weighs 100 g in size S and packs into its pocket; the WIND weighs 135 g in size S, blocks strong winds and has thumb loops to keep its sleeves in place.
The SKIN vest weighs just 60 g in size S: it protects your torso while leaving your arms free on fast outings. The STORM and SKIN VESTE are also available in a limited Team Cimalp edition. None of these windproof jackets is waterproof: when the rain sets in, switch to a STORM.
Warm running jacket for winter runs
When temperatures drop, the BLIZZARD takes over: its 250 g/m² CIMATHERM® Stretch fabric has hollow fibres that retain warmth, breathe during exertion and block sustained winds. It is not waterproof. A close-fitting hood, thumb loops and reflective prints make it suited to outings by headtorch. The BLIZZARD runs small and has a close fit. For chilly mornings, the TOULAU half-zip top in CIMAFLEX weighs 180 g in size S and works as a mid-layer under a jacket. Find the full winter selection in our winter running jackets.
Cimalp has designed mountain clothing since 1964, and these jackets, like all Cimalp clothing, benefit from the free repairs for life. For runners, see our men’s trail jackets.
