What is technical clothing?

Technical clothing is designed to perform a measurable function in the mountains: wick away sweat, retain warmth or block rain and wind. Its performance figures appear on the product page: Schmerber for waterproofing, g/m²/24 h for breathability and km/h for wind resistance. The COSMIQUES 2 F jacket, for example, has a waterproof rating of 20,000 Schmerber and a breathability rating of 80,000 g/m²/24 h.

What base layer should you wear under a fleece?

A merino wool top wicks away sweat and keeps you warm when you stop. The CimaWool® WOOL TOP 200 F weighs 205 g in size S; pair it with the WOOL PANT 200 F leggings in cold weather. In milder conditions, a merino t-shirt such as the 90 g AIGLIERE 4 F is enough under a lightweight fleece.

Can Cimalp clothing be repaired?

Yes, free of charge for life. Subject to workshop approval, the Cimalp repair workshop repairs zips, seams, buttons and worn fabric on jackets, fleeces, insulated jackets, trousers, shorts, t-shirts and shirts. Complete the after-sales service form, then send in the item at your own expense. Assessment and repair take no more than 30 days, and return shipping is covered in France and the EU.

Women’s outdoor clothing: what each layer needs to do

On the ascent, your body generates heat and sweat; when you stop, it cools down within minutes. To manage that change, give each layer a purpose. Against your skin, a base layer or t-shirt wicks away sweat. Over that, a fleece or insulated jacket keeps you warm. The outer jacket blocks rain and wind. Open or remove a layer whenever your pace changes, without stopping for long. Before buying, sort your current clothing into these three layers and start with the one you’re missing.

Merino base layer: top, leggings or t-shirt

Merino wool keeps you warm when you stop and reduces odours, which matters on a multi-day trip. In winter, the WOOL TOP 200 F top and WOOL PANT 200 F leggings, made from CimaWool® merino, each weigh around 200 g in size S and can be worn under trousers or a fleece. In summer, the AIGLIERE 4 F merino wool t-shirt weighs 90 g in size S and can be worn on its own. Find these styles in our women’s thermal base layers and our women’s t-shirts and shirts. Leave cotton for the city : it traps moisture against your skin.

JORASSE fleece or MORZINE insulated jacket: your warm layer

For activity in the cold, the JORASSE 3 F fleece weighs 445 g in size S, provides the warmth you need and has a built-in mask to protect your face from the wind. It blocks a moderate breeze of 20 to 40 km/h. When you stop, put on an insulated jacket : the MORZINE 3 F, insulated with CIMALOFT® and treated with a water-repellent finish, retains its warmth in damp weather. Its elastic drawcords keep cold air out at the cuffs and hem. Find fleeces in our women's fleece jackets and insulated jackets in our women’s technical jackets. In winds above 40 km/h, add a jacket over your fleece.

Waterproof jacket, softshell or trail jacket: choose for your level of effort

Choose your jacket based on the expected rain and how hard you’ll be working. For prolonged rain, the COSMIQUES 2 F, with an Ultrashell® membrane Ultrashell® rated at 20,000 Schmerber, has a breathability rating of 80,000 g/m²/24 h and weighs 340 g in size S; the ADVANCED 4 F, with the same membrane, weighs 370 g. For changeable weather, the ENERGY 6 F softshell, made with three-layer CimaShell rated at 10,000 Schmerber, protects against showers and blocks strong winds.
