Which running cap should you choose for sunny runs?
In the height of summer, sweat runs from your forehead into your eyes before you finish the first climb. An internal sweatband catches it. For running in hot weather, choose a cap weighing no more than 50 g, with a sweatband. The TRAIL CAP weighs 50 g and the 5 PANEL CAP 47 g. Both combine a micro-ventilated construction with mesh to release heat as you run, and offer UPF 40 UV protection.
On the TRAIL CAP, you can adjust the rear fastening while running without stopping, and the fabric dries quickly to stay lightweight right to the finish. The 5 PANEL CAP, made from 100% recycled polyester, is just as suitable for a 10 km race as for a long-distance trail run.
Trail bucket hat: 360° protection for your neck and ears
After a full day in the sun, a cap can leave your neck and ears burnt. For long, exposed outings, choose the TRAIL BOB. Its soft brim provides 360° protection for your face, ears and neck, at a weight of 65 g.
An elastic cord keeps it in place when the wind picks up on the ridges, while an internal sweatband absorbs perspiration. It folds away into a waist-belt pocket. It’s also suitable for hiking on days spent entirely in the sun.
Ventilation, sweatband and UPF: what to look for in a running cap
Compare these key features:
- Weight: from 47 g for the 5 PANEL CAP to 80 g for the TRUCKER CAP.
- Ventilation: micro-ventilated construction and mesh, or a rear mesh panel on the trucker.
- Sweatband: on the TRAIL CAP, 5 PANEL CAP and TRAIL BOB.
- Sun protection: UPF 40 on all three models.
For long outings, choose a model with a sweatband : it keeps sweat out of your eyes from the first kilometre to the last. To protect your eyes, add trail running sunglasses.
Trucker cap: from training to everyday wear
Some caps work off the running route too. The TRUCKER CAP combines sport-mesh fabric with a rear mesh panel that ventilates the back of your head even in intense heat; its perforated rear fastening adjusts in seconds. For a cap you can also wear around town, choose the trucker. It weighs 80 g. With no sweatband or stated UPF rating, it’s less suitable for strong sun: choose the TRAIL CAP instead.

Men’s or women’s running cap: one adjustable size
All our trail caps are unisex. They come in one size: the caps adjust at the back, while an elastic cord adjusts the bucket hat. The TRAIL CAP, 5 PANEL CAP and TRAIL BOB are designed for trail running; the TRUCKER CAP is for everyday wear. Adjust the fit before you set off, then tighten it as you run if the wind picks up.
