How to dress for skiing? Our tips
We often look for the perfect outfit for skiing. To help answer your questions, follow our tips to guide you in your choice of ski outfit:
- Wear as your first layer some high-performance thermal ski base layers to protect yourself from the cold, there are all kinds available, but merino wool or the classic fleece base layer are 2 good options. This layer is particularly important if temperatures are cool.
- Layer over it a ski mid layer fleece or down type (down jacket) to keep you warm — again, this layer will be important for those who feel the cold easily or if your skiing is fairly low-intensity. Die-hard freestylers and black-run enthusiasts can skip it, as the physical activity alone will be enough to keep them warm!
- For your outer layer, pull on your ski jacket, this must be perfectly windproof, waterproof against snow thanks to its membrane and heat-sealed seams, and warm thanks to an insulating layer to protect you from the cold, wind and snow. Some will even prefer a waterproof hiking jacket paired with a warm layer underneath.
- Complete your outfit with a ski trousers, which, like the jacket, should be waterproof, windproof and warm. For a more classic look, go for the timeless ski salopette that made Cimalp's name!
- Accessories should not be overlooked when buying winter clothing. Warm and resistant gloves will help keep your hands warm while protecting them from cold temperatures. Thick, warm socks are also an excellent option for keeping your feet warm throughout the day. For better protection, don't forget to add a beanie or even a helmet for winter sports such as alpine skiing or snowboarding.
