SUNGLASSES FOR SUNNY DAYS
On sunny days, especially if you're into cross-country skiing or ski touring, never head out without a pair of sunglasses.
Opt for "glacier"-style category 4 anti-UVA/UVB lenses, perfectly designed to protect your eyes and prevent glare in snowy environments where light reflects easily off the snow, creating intense brightness.
What are the key criteria for choosing a ski mask?
When choosing a ski mask, here are the key criteria to consider:
Make sure the mask offers optimal protection against UVA and UVB rays. UV filters protect your eyes from damage caused by sun exposure at altitude.
Opt for a mask with polarised or photochromic lenses:
- Photochromic lenses: this treatment allows lenses to adapt to light conditions, protecting you whether it's overcast or blazing sunshine. They can shift from category 2 to category 4 in just a few minutes. A photochromic ski mask is recommended if you ski regularly.
- Polarised lenses: they reduce sun glare on the snow. Terrain contrasts remain clear, as do patches of ice that you won't mistake for snow.
Choose a mask that offers a wide peripheral field of vision without distortion, allowing you to see obstacles, other skiers and changes in terrain clearly. Look for a mask with an effective ventilation system to prevent fogging on the inside of the lenses. Good air circulation prevents condensation and ensures clear vision throughout the day. Make sure the mask fits your face and ski helmet well. It should be comfortable to wear and not put excessive pressure on the nose or temples. Adjustable straps and padded foam provide a personalised fit and optimal comfort.
Is it possible to wear prescription sunglasses under a ski mask?
With adapted models, it is possible to wear your mask over your sunglasses. These models offer a larger internal volume to accommodate your sunglasses frames. The foam along the edges of the mask, designed to optimise your comfort, is also cut away to allow your arms to pass through easily. This way, you can ski the slopes while enjoying all the benefits of a ski mask.
