Women’s technical trousers: choose for the season and weather
Start with the worst weather you’re likely to face, then consider the terrain. On dry trails, stretchy, water-repellent trousers are enough from spring to autumn. For prolonged rain, add a membrane ; in dry cold or on snow, choose a brushed inner fabric or insulation. Before deciding, check the product details for:
- Trouser weight, from 199 g for the OCHE F to 734 g for the PITON 2 F ski trousers
- Whether it has a membrane and its hydrostatic head rating, from 10,000 to 20,000 mm
- Reinforcements at the knees and lower legs
- The availability of a short-leg version
Rocky terrain and all four seasons: BALMAZ F and EXPLORE 4 F
For trousers you can wear from spring to autumn, choose the BALMAZ F: double-faced, bi-stretch fabric that manages moisture and blocks wind, weighing 320 g in size S. For rock or scree, choose the EXPLORE 4 F, stretchy, with reinforcements in exposed areas, weighing 400 g. For Nordic walking, the BERGEN PANT 4 F (360 g) has ventilation below the knees. Compare fits and reinforcements in our women’s hiking trousers.
Lightweight or 2-in-1 trousers for summer and trekking
When the weather warms up, go lighter. The OCHE F weighs 199 g in size S and dries quickly; the water-repellent LEVANNA 3 F weighs 270 g. For running or fast walking, the windproof FAST 3 F has Kevlar reinforcements and weighs 280 g. To switch to shorts without stopping for long, the CLARET F (300 g) and JOHANNESBOURG 3 F (320 g) convert in seconds, without taking off your shoes for the JOHANNESBOURG. For hot climates, the JOHANNESBOURG 3 F and CARLITA 2 F (255 g) have an anti-mosquito treatment. This treatment is an insecticide*, recognised as effective against most mosquito species (Aedes, including Aedes albopictus, known as the "tiger mosquito", Culex and Anopheles). Find them in our lightweight women’s trousers and our women’s 2-in-1 trousers.
Waterproof, warm or ski trousers: rain, cold and snow
In prolonged rain, pull on trousers with a membrane. The HOGGAR 3 F uses 10,000 mm CIMASHELL with sealed seams. With three pockets and kick patches, it can be worn on its own and weighs 400 g. To keep a pair in your pack, choose overtrousers : the TORRENT F, made from three-layer Ultrashell rated to 20,000 mm, has two full-length zips so you can pull it on without taking off your shoes, and weighs 310 g. View the range in our women’s waterproof trousers.
In cold weather, the QUEBEC 2 F has a brushed softshell inner and a high waist. It blocks wind and keeps out snow, weighing 460 g. For skiing, the SNOW PANT 5 F (510 g) has internal gaiters, a 10,000 mm membrane and a RECCO reflector. The CARROZ F combines CIMATHERM insulation with a 20,000 mm CIMASHELL membrane and weighs 660 g. Compare them in our women’s ski trousers.
Shorts, skirts and trousers with shorter legs
For summer hiking, the stretchy, water-repellent AERRA COURT 3 F shorts weigh 140 g. If you prefer a skirt, choose the ACACIA 3 F : lightweight and breathable, it weighs 215 g. For climbing, the OSSAU F shorts weigh 195 g. View all the styles in our women’s hiking shorts and skirts and our women’s trail running shorts and trousers.
If you’re shorter, look for the COURT version: BALMAZ, EXPLORE 4, LEVANNA 3, PLARET, CLARET, JOHANNESBOURG 3, HOGGAR 3, QUEBEC 2 and SNOW PANT 5 come with shorter legs, ready to wear without alterations. Check the rating in the product details : 1.62 m for the PLARET Court F, HOGGAR COURT 3 F and QUEBEC COURT 2 F.
* The mosquito-repellent treatment is a biocidal product containing permethrin as its active substance. It may cause skin sensitisation.
