Which men’s running t-shirt should you choose for the temperature?
In July, the sun warms your shoulders from the start; in November, you run the first few kilometres with your arms tucked in. Choose the weight of your running top to suit the weather. In size M:
- Sleeveless top: the FAURIO weighs 75 g and leaves your shoulders free in summer.
- Short sleeves: 80 g for the EIGER, 95 g for the BAUGES and LE FRENCH MONTAGNARD, and 100 g for the FARAUT with a half-zip collar.
- Long sleeves: 110 g for the BAUGES LS, 120 g for LE FRENCH MONTAGNARD LS and 190 g for the VENTURI LS.
- Warm tops: 210 g for the ALBAN and 240 g for the ARGENTIERES with a zipped collar.
In hot weather, choose a sleeveless top or a short-sleeved t-shirt; for cool mornings, switch to a long-sleeved top weighing 110 to 120 g. The BAUGES LS is designed for cool weather, altitude and the start of the season.
Men’s trail running top: reduce rubbing under your pack
On an ultra, your pack strap rubs against the same spot for hours. Seams matter as much as weight. The TEAM LS has flat seams, known as flatlock seams; the TEAM has bonded sleeve finishes with no seam to rub against you. If you’re prone to chafing, choose a style with flat seams or no seams.
The GRIMPEUR PEI has a close fit that prevents fabric from bunching under the straps of a hydration pack. All three styles are limited editions. At 80 g, the EIGER is barely noticeable under a trail running pack; its extra-fine knit needs careful washing. The FARAUT has an ergonomic fit designed for the male body: open its half-zip on climbs and close it on descents.
Long-sleeved t-shirt and thermal top for winter running
At the summit on a December morning, sweat chills your back as soon as you stop. The SEAMLESS tops are thermal layers knitted without seams, designed to be worn next to the skin under a fleece or jacket. The SEAMLESS TOP weighs 160 g in size S/M. The 205 g SEAMLESS HOODIE TOP adds a hood that unfolds into a balaclava to cover the lower face. For winter trail running and ski touring, choose a SEAMLESS top.
The ALBAN and ARGENTIERES tops, made with SMARTWARM fibres, have thumb loops that keep the sleeves in place under gloves and a zipped back pocket for a gel or keys. The VENTURI LS has a double-faced knit and works for both hiking and trail running. For a warmer layer, see our men’s thermal base layers.
Night runs and ultras: reflective details and odour control
In November, darkness falls before an evening run is over. The BAUGES and LE FRENCH MONTAGNARD, in both short- and long-sleeved versions, along with the FARAUT and FAURIO, have reflective details; the ALBAN and ARGENTIERES have reflective prints. For night runs, choose a style with reflective details.
On runs lasting several hours, odour control matters too. The ALBAN, ARGENTIERES and SEAMLESS tops use Polygiene StayFresh technology; the other styles have a CimaFresh treatment. LE FRENCH MONTAGNARD packs into its own side pocket, in both short- and long-sleeved versions.
Men’s running t-shirt: which size should you choose?
Choose your usual size. The fits differ, too. FARAUT follows the shape of your body without restricting movement, SEAMLESS fits close to the torso without adding volume, and FAURIO TEAM has a cut that accommodates a trail running pack. Wear the t-shirt next to your skin so sweat can escape.
