Mosquito-repellent clothing: treatment built into the fabric

A mosquito-repellent clothing has its treatment* built into the fabric: nothing to apply to your skin or reapply before you leave. Around the sleeves or ankles, thin untreated fabric can let bites through. The INSECT-STOPPER* treatment in Cimalp clothing repels mosquitoes and ticks without odour. On the ACAPULCO 4 H shirt, it is stated to remain effective after 30 washes.

What to look for in mosquito-repellent travel clothing

Before you travel, check these details on the product page:

Risk areas: mosquitoes targeted by the treatment

Mosquitoes of the Aedes genus, including Aedes albopictus, known as the ‘tiger mosquito’, transmit dengue, Zika virus and chikungunya. Anopheles mosquitoes transmit malaria. Culex mosquitoes transmit West Nile virus, among other diseases. They are found in Southeast Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, Central and South America, and parts of the Mediterranean region.

The treated garment* protects the areas it covers. Use a skin repellent on exposed skin and a mosquito net at night.

Mosquito-repellent clothing and UV protection

Areas with high mosquito activity are often very sunny too. The UPF 40 ALICANTE 4 F shirt blocks more than 97% of UV rays; the UPF 40+ FOLD cap folds into a pocket; ANTON shirts also provide UV protection, while the double-flap collar of the ANNABEL 4 F shades the back of the neck. Covering your arms and legs protects against bites and sun exposure without adding a layer.

The Cimalp mosquito-repellent range

This treatment is an insecticide* recognised as effective against most mosquito species, including Aedes (such as Aedes albopictus, known as the ‘tiger mosquito’), Culex and Anopheles. The range includes long- and short-sleeved shirts, lightweight trousers, 2-in-1 convertible trousers — several available in shorter leg lengths — and a foldable cap, for travel from Cambodia to Costa Rica and the equatorial forests of Central Africa.
