Our selection of care and waterproofing products for technical clothing helps you choose the right product to clean or waterproof your footwear, clothing and accessories. All CimAlp products are designed for a long life and high durability but you can also help them last longer by caring for them with the right products.

How do you wash a waterproof garment?

First, check the garment label for the manufacturer’s specific care instructions. These may include washing recommendations. Before washing your waterproof jacket, close the zips and flaps. Loosen any straps and elasticated parts, then turn the jacket inside out before putting it in the machine. Use a mild liquid detergent designed for waterproof or technical clothing. Do not use fabric conditioner, as it can damage the fabric’s waterproof coating. If you need to clean specific stains, treat them before machine washing. The best machine cycle is a synthetics wash at 30°C. Above all, avoid washing your waterproof jacket with coloured garments that might bleed.

How do you restore a garment’s waterproof performance?

Waterproof clothing may also need reproofing after several washes to restore its performance. To do this, you can use a Nikwax waterproofing spray designed specifically for technical clothing:

Lay the clean, wet garment flat with the zips closed.
Hold the spray 15 cm from the garment.
Apply evenly to the garment’s outer fabric.
Wait 2 minutes, then wipe away any excess with a damp cloth.
Check that you haven’t missed any areas.
After a few minutes, wipe away any excess with a damp cloth.

How do you dry waterproof clothing after washing?

Follow the garment manufacturer’s specific drying instructions, as recommendations may vary depending on the fabric and waterproof coating. Otherwise, you have two options:

- Leave it to air-dry: lay your jacket flat in a cool, well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight.

- Or use a tumble dryer on a very gentle cycle, making sure all zips are closed.
