The compression sock: recovery-boosting and ideal for recovery
CimAlp compression socks are ultra-technical, featuring 3D FLEX compression technology. They reduce fatigue, re-energise and stimulate. Tested by doctors, they are your ally against heavy legs and help restart venous return during post-exercise recovery. They stimulate blood flow, prevent the feeling of fatigue, and support easier, faster recovery.
Furthermore, their seamless construction perfectly follows the shape of the calf, holding it firmly without restricting it. Our patented 3D-Flex® technology provides long-lasting zone compression that stays durable over time, for perfect comfort and efficiency. CimAlp offers an extensive range of socks at a surprisingly good value, with careful finishing and built-to-last construction.
What is the best material for hiking socks?
The most common synthetic fibres are polyester, polyamide, polypropylene and acrylic. These materials insulate well against cold (though less so than wool), even when wet. They wick moisture effectively, dry quickly and are fairly resistant and durable. Various fibres have been developed by manufacturers to meet different needs — some primarily for wicking moisture and drying quickly in warm conditions (e.g. Coolmax), others for insulating against cold while still managing moisture (e.g. Thermolite). Merino wool has the advantage of being comfortable and insulating against cold even when wet. As it is thermoregulating, it also insulates against warm conditions. In addition, merino wool is naturally antibacterial and limits unpleasant odours. However, it wicks moisture slightly less effectively than synthetic fibres and wears out quickly, especially if not combined with other materials.
Should hiking socks be high-cut or low-cut?
Walking socks come in low, high and mid-cut versions. To choose the right size, it's straightforward: the sock just needs to sit higher than the collar of your shoes to prevent your skin from coming into direct contact with the shoe. With low-cut shoes, you can also perfectly use high-cut hiking socks — this provides better protection for the ankle and leg against knocks and friction, and keeps you a little warmer.
Should hiking socks have reinforcements?
Yes, many hiking socks have reinforcements at the heel and toe, and sometimes in other areas too. When choosing a pair, make sure this is the case if you want them to be durable. And if you've already worn through a pair of socks, you'll easily see which zones need to be reinforced.
