The choice of socks is often underestimated when preparing for a hike. Yet they help keep your feet dry, provide comfort and prevent blisters from forming. While many models exist, some are better suited to a particular type of outing. To help you see things more clearly, Cimalp reveals a selection of the best hiking socks.
Selection of the best hiking socks
#1 X-2 Mid
The X-2 Mid are an excellent choice of hiking socks. Their double-layer construction prevents friction against the skin. Their anti-friction pattern under the arch of the foot also helps limit friction inside the shoe. The Seamless finish eliminates hot spots. They are an excellent choice if you are looking for the best blister-prevention socks.
You can use them for versatile use, as they are suited to hiking as well as running or Nordic sports. These blister-prevention socks are also ultra-durable, stretchy and antibacterial, making them comfortable to wear all year round.

Criteria for choosing the best hiking socks
Material
Several criteria help you choose the right hiking socks, starting with the material. While most hiking socks are made from blended materials, each offers more or fewer advantages depending on the type of hike.
Synthetic materials such as polyester or nylon are both elastic and durable. They are ideal for hiking in warm weather, as they effectively wick away moisture and dry quickly.
Natural materials such as merino wool are thermoregulating and antibacterial. They are particularly appreciated during intense outings thanks to their odour management. Cotton, which absorbs moisture and dries slowly, is however not recommended.
Reinforcements
Reinforcement zones are an extremely important criterion when choosing hiking socks. Indeed, the best blister-prevention socks feature reinforcements on the strategic areas of the foot. You can find a thicker weave or padding on the heel, the forefoot or the shin.
Some socks also feature a raised knit zone or an elastic band under the arch of the foot, as well as a more fitted structure around the ankle. These elements help ensure a better fit. Finally, flat seams help reduce friction on sensitive areas such as the toes.

Thickness
The best hiking socks must be suited to the type of outing to avoid any feeling of discomfort. Thin pairs are suitable for light hikes and warm weather thanks to their maximum breathability. They do, however, offer less cushioning.
Medium-thickness pairs are versatile. They offer good thermal insulation and sufficient cushioning for moderate hiking. Thick pairs are recommended for demanding outings or in cold weather. They provide good cushioning and increased insulation, but are less breathable and take longer to dry.
The choice of sock thickness also depends on your footwear. The best hiking shoes may require thicker pairs to avoid pressure points if they are rigid.
Size
Finally, sock height is determined by the type of hiking footwear. Low socks or "Low" stop below the ankle and are worn with low-cut shoes.
Mid-cut socks or "Mid" rise above the ankle bone and effectively protect the ankles. They are worn with mid-cut or low-cut shoes. Finally, high socks or "High" stop below the calf and provide good protection against friction. They are worn with high-cut shoes.
You now know which are the best hiking socks. Whether you want more comfort, lightness, protection or durability, each model offers different advantages. Your choice should therefore be guided by your needs and the type of hiking you plan to do.
