Dreaming of taking part in UTMB®? With the 2026 edition now over, the next key date is registration in January 2027. Here is the essential process, based on the proven model of recent years. The exact official schedule is published by the organisers in autumn.
Requirements for registering for UTMB®
Since 2022, ITRA points have no longer been required. You now need to meet two conditions: hold at least one Running Stone earned within the past 24 months, and have a valid UTMB Index in the 100K or 100M category. This is the point to plan for earliest: Running Stones are earned by taking part in UTMB World Series events, which means having raced in the series at least one season beforehand. For 2027, the relevant window therefore runs until the end of the 2026 season.
Registration schedule
The schedule is repeated from one year to the next with few changes. For the 2026 edition, pre-registration for the UTMB® World Series Finals (UTMB, CCC, OCC) was open from 8 January at 11am to 19 January at 11:59pm. Ballot results were published on 22 January, and selected runners had until 4 February at 11:59pm to confirm their registration and pay their fees.
The TDS® is an exception: registration is without a ballot, on a first come, first served basis, with entries opening on 13 January 2026 at 11am. It is often the most direct route to securing a race bib for Chamonix week.
Remember the principle: everything happens over around ten days in January. Check the official website from autumn onwards for the exact dates.
The ballot and alternatives
Given the very high number of applicants, the organiser has introduced a ballot to allocate places for the most sought-after races (UTMB, CCC, OCC, MCC, ETC). More than 29,000 applications were received for the 2026 edition. There are two alternatives to avoid it or increase your chances: the charity bib, which guarantees a place in exchange for a minimum £2200 donation to a partner charity, and a 30% chance bonus in the ballot for runners who commit to low-carbon travel, meaning arriving without a car.
Entry fee
For the 2026 edition, the UTMB® entry fee was £479. For comparison, expect to pay £320 for the TDS®, £310 for the CCC® and £199 for the OCC. These prices include VAT, registration fees, the eco-tax and membership of the Friends of UTMB association; the now-mandatory carbon contribution is added according to your mode of transport. Medical certificate replaced by the PPS
Since a change in French legislation, a medical certificate is no longer required to register for HOKA UTMB Mont-White® races. It has been replaced by the PPS (Health Prevention Pathway), an online awareness module to complete within the three months before your race on the official PPS website. The code obtained at the end of the pathway must then be entered in your MyUTMB dashboard to validate your registration.
Frequently asked questions
When should you register for UTMB® 2027?
Pre-registration traditionally opens at the beginning of January, for a window of around ten days, followed shortly afterwards by a ballot. The exact dates are published the previous autumn.
How far in advance should you plan?
Allow at least a year and a half. Running Stones are earned at UTMB World Series events held in the previous season or seasons, before you can even apply for the January ballot.
Are ITRA points still required?
No. Since 2022, the system has been based on Running Stones and the UTMB Index, rather than ITRA points.
What happens if you are not selected in the ballot?
Running Stones are not lost and increase your chances in subsequent applications. There is also the charity bib, the low-carbon mobility bonus, and the TDS®, which is not subject to the ballot.
