If you want to get started with the UTMB® registration process, you need to understand how it works and what phases it involves. Here's the essential information you need to know.

A selection based on race experience
First of all, you should know that you need to demonstrate trail experience. To this end, the UTMB® has established ITRA point thresholds to be earned in previous years to prove your ability to take on this type of event.
A second phase based on a lottery draw
Given the very large number of candidates for this flagship event, which attracts trail runners from across the globe, the organiser has introduced a lottery draw process to select participants. With more than 26,000 applications for only 10,000 available places (across all races), this is an unavoidable stage. If luck doesn't favour a candidate in the lottery draw, they receive double the chances the following year for the same race, and then registration priority after two unsuccessful lottery draws. However, this system evolved in 2021, introducing an alternative route via participation in races on the UTMB® International and UTWT international circuit. To find out more:
