Drop Evolution trail shoe: who is it for?
Did you know that around 30% of runners get injured each year? Many land on their heels, creating repeated impacts on the body. A trail shoe can help you adopt a more natural, efficient stride that places less stress on your body, so you can keep running for miles while looking after yourself.
The innovative progressive-drop concept is designed for runners who want to:
- Get a versatile trail shoe for all types of terrain and distances, using the insoles to adapt the drop to your planned outing or race
- Run efficiently with less impact on the body, reducing the risk of injuries over time
- Gradually develop the most natural stride possible, without switching abruptly to a low drop and risking injury in the short term

What should you look for when choosing trail shoes?
Choosing the right trail shoes is essential for practising this sport safely and comfortably. Your choice of trail shoes will depend mainly on the terrain you’ll run on. Cushioning matters: well-cushioned shoes provide greater comfort and protection against impact. The soles of trail shoes need good grip on the different surfaces you’ll encounter. Trail shoes should also support your feet and ankles to help prevent injuries and sprains, while remaining breathable to wick away moisture and keep your feet dry. Lighter shoes are often better for shorter, faster runs, while heavier shoes can offer more protection and support for longer, more technical runs. Every foot is different, so choose trail shoes that suit your foot shape. Don’t overlook your choice of trail running socks, which need to be breathable, comfortable and durable enough.
How do you care for trail shoes?
Clean your trail shoes regularly to prevent dirt and mud building up, which can shorten their life and affect performance. Dry them thoroughly after each use to help prevent odours and bacterial growth. Clean them with a soft-bristled brush and lukewarm water; avoid harsh detergents that could damage the materials. Then leave them to air-dry. To protect your trail shoes from water and dirt, use a waterproofing spray designed for sports footwear. If the insoles are worn or damaged, replace them with new ones to improve comfort and foot support.
How can you avoid injuries when running trail?
First, choose running shoes suited to your needs, your feet and the terrain you plan to run on to help avoid injury. If you’re new to trail, start slowly and gradually increase the intensity and length of your runs. This gives your body time to adapt to trail running. Before a run, stretch and warm up to prepare for the effort ahead. Dehydration can cause muscle cramps and injuries, so drink enough water before, during and after your run. Strength training can help prevent injuries by improving stability, balance and resilience. Add strength exercises to your training plan, focusing on your leg and core muscles.
What’s the difference between a trail shoe and a running shoe?
The main difference between a trail shoe and a running shoe is how each is designed for different terrain.
Trail shoes are designed specifically for running in the mountains and on rough, unstable and varied terrain. Their lugged, built-to-last outsole provides better grip and stability, with reliable traction on slippery or muddy ground. Reinforced toe and heel protection also helps guard against injuries from obstacles.
Running shoes, by contrast, are designed for roads or smoother, more stable surfaces. They are generally lighter and more breathable, with better shock absorption for a smoother, more responsive stride. Their outsole is smoother than that of trail shoes, helping you roll more fluidly through each step.
