The 3-finger glove — also known as the "lobster" glove for its resemblance to a lobster's claw — is an excellent compromise between dexterity and extra warmth. It avoids the dexterity loss of a mitten (a fingerless glove) while gaining warmth by grouping fingers together. It's ultimately a
a rather clever product concept that Cimalp simply had to add to its catalogue!
The 3-finger glove explained in detail
Typically, the middle, ring and little fingers are grouped together, leaving the index finger and thumb separate. Some models keep the thumb alone with all other fingers grouped together, but this generally offers less dexterity.
The principle of the 3-finger glove is straightforward: grouped together, the fingers keep each other warm, reducing heat loss. It's a reliable way to keep your fingers significantly warmer throughout the day.
What activities suit a 3-finger glove?
We rarely realise it, but we use our little fingers surprisingly infrequently. And that holds true across activities: whether cycling, in the mountains, paragliding or skiing, the 3-finger glove is practically equivalent to a full glove.
You can therefore use 3-finger gloves for any activity where your hand only needs to grip and doesn't require fine finger movements with the little fingers.
That leaves a wide range of options — you can use them for running, ski touring, hiking, cycling, snowshoeing, and more.
The new CIMALP 3-finger gloves
The model from
3-finger gloves was designed to deliver very high thermal protection without sacrificing dexterity, even in extreme conditions. Made with PRIMALOFT® and Kevlar® reinforcements, these gloves are built to handle extreme cold (down to -25°C!!) and are therefore ideal for skiing and high-altitude mountaineering.
To choose the right glove size before ordering online, simply measure the distance from the base of your wrist to the tip of your index finger, then refer to the sizing guide below:
S: 18 cm
M: 19 cm
L: 20 cm
XL: 21 cm

CIMASHELL® technology delivers both a waterproof breathable membrane rated at 20,000 mm water column (equivalent to EN 20811 standard: 20,000 Schmerber) and a breathability of 20,000 g/m²/24h, along with excellent windproofing.
With these lobster gloves, you get the same thermal protection as a mitten: the middle, ring and little fingers share a single compartment and keep each other warm. The index finger sits alone, like the thumb — you lose very little dexterity compared to a traditional glove, while benefiting from the natural pinch grip (just like a lobster's claw) for all everyday gripping movements.
They're also built to last, constructed from leather and Kevlar — tough and highly resistant to cuts and abrasion. Long cuffs ensure solid thermal protection for the forearms, and a Velcro closure keeps snow out at the wrist.
The goatskin leather palm delivers genuine comfort and flexibility, making these gloves supple and pleasant to wear in any situation.
Very easy care
Like most Cimalp products, the 3-finger gloves have been designed for simple, practical care.
To wash them, simply put them in the washing machine. A 30° cycle is recommended to protect the leather and preserve all its qualities and suppleness.
No fabric softener, conditioner or powder detergent is needed to wash these 3-finger gloves. In addition, avoid all products containing chlorine and stain removers, as these can permanently damage the product and cause it to lose its properties.
