The 3-finger glove, also known as the "lobster" glove because it resembles a lobster, is an excellent compromise between dexterity and extra warmth. It avoids the loss of dexterity that comes with a mitten (a fingerless glove) while gaining a bit of warmth by grouping fingers together. It is ultimately a a pretty clever product idea that Cimalp simply had to add to its range!
The CIMASHELL® technology delivers both a waterproof breathable membrane rated to 20,000 mm of water (equivalent to EN 20811 standard: 20,000 Schmerber), a breathability of 20,000 g/m²/24h and strong windproof performance.
With these lobster gloves, you get thermal protection equivalent to a mitten: the middle, ring and little fingers share a single compartment and keep each other warm. The index finger is separate, as is the thumb — you lose very little dexterity compared to a traditional glove, making the most of the natural pinch grip (like a lobster's claw) for all everyday gripping movements.
They are also durable, being made from leather and Kevlar — tough and highly resistant to cuts and abrasion. Long cuffs ensure good thermal protection for the forearms, and snow is kept out with a Velcro fastening that prevents moisture from getting in at the wrist.
The goatskin leather palm delivers genuine comfort and great flexibility, making for supple gloves that are pleasant to wear in any situation.
The 3-finger glove explained in detail
Generally, it is the middle, ring and little fingers that are grouped together, leaving the index finger and thumb separate. Some models also have the thumb alone and the other fingers grouped in pairs, though this typically offers less dexterity. The principle of the 3-finger glove is straightforward: by being grouped together, the fingers keep each other warm, limiting heat loss. It's a great way to keep your fingers significantly warmer throughout the day. What activities suit a 3-finger glove?
We rarely realise how little we actually use our little fingers — whatever the activity. Whether cycling, in the mountains, paragliding or skiing, the 3-finger glove is practically equivalent to a full glove. You can therefore use 3-finger gloves for any activity where your hand only needs to grip and doesn't require fine finger movements with the little fingers. That leaves a wide range of options — you can use them for running, ski touring, hiking, cycling, snowshoeing and more.
