Aventure 4810: the great measurement of Mont-Blanc with the Expert Surveyors

Aventure 4810 : la grande mesure du Mont-Blanc avec les Géomètres-Experts
The 4810 Adventure is a project of human, scientific and ecological scope centred on the mythical Mont Blanc, Europe's highest summit. It takes the form of an extraordinary expedition led by the Ordre National des Géomètres-Experts since 2001, aimed at collecting measurements to track climate change in our mountains. CIMALP® was designated official equipment supplier for the team of professionals carrying out the ascent. Adventure 4810: the great measurement of Mont Blanc At a time when climate change is having an alarming impact on the planet, the 4810 adventure is all the more meaningful. But what is the 4810 project? It represents 20 years of Mont Blanc measurements by the Géomètres-Experts of Haute-Savoie. Initiated in 2001, this measurement collection work seeks to assess the evolution over the years of the volume of the ice cap and the altitude of Mont Blanc. In 2021, CIMALP®, called by the expedition organisers, thus became the first official equipment supplier for the entire team of professionals from the Union Nationale des Géomètres-Experts (UNGE) who climbed to the summit of the Alps. « At CIMALP®, we above all seek to support projects that are meaningful, to write, together, stories with strong societal and environmental impact, explains Marie Mathias, Marketing & Brand Manager at CIMALP®. Supporting this scientific, ecological and human project was therefore a natural decision for us. Because Mont Blanc is part of our DNA.Because at the heart of CIMALP®'s history, it is a story of humanity, innovation and ecological awareness. Because raising public awareness of environmental challenges such as glacier melt must be a genuine mission. » It is with the aim of accompanying and protecting all mountaineers and adventurers across generations — its driving force since 1964 — that the Drôme-based brand agreed to commit alongside the Géomètres-Experts in their supplying technical and durable equipment crafted for the extreme conditions of the Alpine summits.

4807.81 metres: the new altitude of Mont Blanc

It was once safely at the summit of the Alps that the surveyors were able to proceed with the 3D scanning of the Mont Blanc summit. A few days later, at a press conference on 29 September 2021, the new altitude of Mont Blanc is announced: 4807.81 metres. A figure loaded with values and meaning. « The 4810 project embodies values we have championed for years. That of the greatness of the mountain, symbolically represented by Mont Blanc, and that of human solidarity. The ascent of which Man is capable without mechanical assistance, driven solely by the will to climb summits in order to preserve them, is remarkable », observes Lionel Marsanne, CEO of CIMALP®.   Altitude of Mont Blanc The 2021 expedition, which took place in ideal weather conditions, made it possible to measure, in addition to the altitude, the volume of ice using specific sensors operated by the partners Leica and Géomédia. All the data collected over 20 years has been carefully handed over to glaciologists and climatologists able to analyse it properly and draw conclusions for future generations.

A project for future generations

The 4810 adventure, a reflection of technical and scientific advances, also demonstrates the extraordinary commitment of which Man is capable for future generations and the planet. The values that bind all the stakeholders of this remarkable endeavour? Precision, passion and humility. Because the 4810 project is certainly a technical adventure but, above all, it is also a a wonderful human adventure. Florian Olivier, mountain guide and long-standing CIMALP ambassador®, had the privilege of making the ascent of Mont Blanc alongside the Géomètres-Experts during the 2021 great measurement. He looks back on his exceptional experience: « it marked the twentieth anniversary of this measurement project. This data matters all the more for generations to come. At CIMALP®, we wanted above all to fulfil our duty of transmission by climbing this summit and bearing witness to the evolution of the High Mountain, and in particular the climate changes it is experiencing. » Passing a piece of history on to future generations, bearing witness to a unique and historic moment — the measurement of the roof of Europe — is the ambition of the French company. It is thus that in collaboration with the production agency SEEN, she immortalised this expedition to the summit of the majestic Mont Blanc in images.     « In this video, I wanted to show that these men remain humble. They don't act tough because they climbed up there. Their only desire is to share, which reflects what I know of this company dedicated to outdoor sports : performance, yes, but in the spirit of sharing and respect for others », explains Julien Declercq, producer and videographer at the SEEN agency. For Florian Olivier, « Julien captured with great precision the passion that drives me and the emotions that guided me throughout this ascent. Having been able to share part of this great adventure with him provides the right perspective on what we experience and take away from this extraordinary project. » The 4810 project — a great adventure lived from the inside, and shared far and wide.
