Setting a proper calendar and training plan
One of the first steps is to set up a training calendar/plan that defines month by month and week by week the workload to complete and the types of exercises to carry out. It will also include intermediate goals such as races or trails of lesser significance than the UTMB® that you can incorporate into your preparation. Finally, your training plan will also include specific mountain stays or intensive weekends to round off a perfect preparation.
Training in the mountains and on flat terrain
It's clear that if you're lucky enough to live in a hilly or mountainous region — whether mid-altitude or high mountain — you have different resources at your disposal than if you have to train in a flat region.
