What is a technical t-shirt?

A technical t-shirt is a garment designed for physical and sporting activities. It is made from technical materials that effectively manage moisture and perspiration, helping to keep the body dry and cool during exercise. Technical t-shirts can also offer protection from the sun and the elements, as well as muscle support. Technical t-shirts are often made from synthetic fabrics such as polyester, elastane or nylon, which are lightweight, breathable and hard-wearing. They may also incorporate technologies such as compression, ventilation and odour management to improve performance and comfort during physical activity.

How do you choose the fabric for your t-shirt or hiking shirt?

Choosing the right fabric for a t-shirt or hiking shirt depends on several factors, including weather conditions, activity level and the type of hiking you plan to do. Avoid cotton, as it absorbs and retains moisture, which can cause discomfort and even hypothermia if you get wet and the temperature drops. Choose synthetic fabrics instead. Hiking t-shirts and shirts made from polyester, elastane, merino wool and nylon, or blends of these materials, are often a good option. These materials are lightweight, breathable and quick-drying, making them ideal for hiking in good weather.

What are the benefits of UV-protective hiking t-shirts and shirts?

If you are hiking in sunny areas, it is important to choose a fabric that offers protection from UV rays. Many hiking t-shirts and shirts are treated with special coatings to provide additional sun protection. This helps protect the skin from burns, sunburn and damage caused by UV rays.
