Who did we design it for?

For hikers who navigate independently with a map and compass, across open terrain or over long distances, when GPS is not enough.

What is it for?

Long-distance hiking: the sighting mirror helps you hold a bearing towards a distant point while keeping the needle in view.

How accurate is it?

Silva states an accuracy of 1°. The mirror lets you see the compass dial and the terrain at the same time to take a bearing.

How does it help with map reading?

Baseplate markings in mm and 1:25'000 and 1:50'000 scales, a declination scale in the capsule and luminous markings for night navigation.

Ideal for

Hiking

The navigation tool that leaves nothing to chance

Fog, fading light, fine detail on the map. In the mountains, a misreading can be costly. A navigation instrument must remain easy to read when conditions get tougher.

This compass lets you take bearings over long distances. Its mirror shows the dial and terrain at the same time, so you can sight a distant point while keeping an eye on the needle. The graduated baseplate lets you measure distances directly on the map, while luminous markings help with navigation at night.

Good navigation starts with reading your surroundings accurately. And that takes an instrument that can handle the terrain.
