Driven by adventure, forged by the cold, and drawn to the most extreme challenges, this former mountain infantry soldier hails from the Ubaye valley.

Today, Guillaume carves his own path between long-distance trail running, polar racing and mushing, from the heart of the Alps to the wild expanses of the Yukon?

Extraordinary challenges, a rugged and humble approach to the mountains, and a deep connection to nature: everything that echoes our vision.

Interview with Guillaume Grima

3 words that define you as an athlete?

Passionate, determined, sharing

3 values that define you as a person?

Curious, persevering, rugged

Why do you feel you belong to the Cimalp family?

It's a group where everyone knows each other, driven by a passion for sport and wide open spaces. A sponsor that puts human relationships before performance, and sharing before results. I felt welcomed with great warmth, supported from my very first moments. A team built of athletes and inspiring, caring people — one in which I know I belong as a full member!!

Your best and worst memory in the mountains — and why?

Best:

I'd say it happened recently, while completing the tour of the Brec du Chambeyron in the Haute-Ubaye. A 40km/3,000m+ loop I completed over 2 days with a bivvy under the stars at 2,800m altitude. I felt truly connected with the valley where I grew up — raw, wild — without crossing a single person for more than 24 hours. A timeless moment.

Worst:

We were climbing an ice gully near Chambéry with my military group leader at the time. We were caught off guard by the temperature rising faster than expected halfway up, and we started seeing avalanches triggering all around us — it was terrifying. We could no longer descend, and continuing the ascent was becoming very risky with very few anchor points. We ultimately decided to call for rescue and were winched out by helicopter to reach the base of the face, in a safe zone.

What do the mountains inspire in you?

A place of freedom

What is your relationship with the environment and ecology?

Ecology is essential for respecting our playground and one another, for the continuity of our sport, but more broadly for all species and our planet.

Another great passion / talent beyond sport?

The art of tattooing.
