What is Fast Hiking?
Fast Hiking is an activity that sits between hiking and trail running. It's dynamic hiking with an active, brisk pace — sometimes running, or at the very least taking long strides on the descents.
What are the benefits of Fast Hiking?
Fast Hiking is an excellent way to improve overall fitness. Brisk, sustained walking works the cardiovascular system, strengthens the leg muscles and builds endurance. Regular physical activity releases endorphins — feel-good hormones — which can help reduce stress and anxiety and lift your mood. On top of that, contact with nature and stunning scenery can promote relaxation and a sense of connection with the environment. Fast Hiking lets you cover greater distances in less time, opening up new terrain and varied landscapes to explore. It also gives you the chance to set personal goals and take on challenges — pushing your speed, distance or ability to overcome obstacles.
Clothing designed for fast-hiking: light and stretchy
Like any sport, fast-hiking requires specific, well-suited kit. That's why Cimalp set out to offer a range of specialist clothing perfectly designed for those who want to cover mountain trails at a faster pace.
A warm and stretchy base layer
It must be warm and ultra-compact. But also highly stretchy, giving you great freedom of movement — especially in fast-hiking where mobility is key.
An ultra-light and compact waterproof jacket
Choose a waterproof jacket with a 3-layer Ultrashell® membrane and large chest vents for excellent breathability at full effort!
A stretch, durable short or trouser
A stretch short will give you perfect mobility and optimal comfort. It should be both lightweight and breathable, with a fitted, ergonomic cut. For trousers, prioritise lightness, comfort and durability. They'll help you move faster on any terrain. Depending on the weather, a windproof trouser or one with a water-repellent coating can be a smart choice.
A lightweight and fairly flexible pair of shoes
Your feet need to feel light, and the shoe must allow a good foot roll and solid adaptation to the terrain. Fast hiking shoes are most often low-cut, with a good grip sole. The outsole is fairly soft with pronounced cushioning for swift movement in the mountains.
