What is a tropical climate?
The tropical climate is located between the tropics, near the equator. It is characterised by very high temperatures that never drop below 18°C. In some regions, rainfall is abundant throughout the year. Vegetation is highly developed and forms jungles. In other, drier regions, vegetation is less dense: this is the savanna.
What are the characteristics of a tropical climate?
The humid tropical zone lies between the two tropics, with:
- High temperatures
- Abundant rainfall
- Two very distinct seasons: a dry, hot season (around 35°C) and a cooler rainy season (around 23°C)
- The savanna, green during the rainy season and yellowed by the sun during the dry season. This is where the planet's largest carnivores and herbivores live (elephants, giraffes, lions, tigers…)
- The steppe, made up of grasses and thorny bushes.
Which countries have a tropical climate?
Brazil is a country where the vast majority of the population lives in a tropical zone. Although Brazil is an enormous country of over 215 million inhabitants with a wide diversity of climates, the tropical savanna climate remains the most dominant. This climate can also be found in the Amazon jungle, the Congo, Indonesia and in certain Caribbean islands.
