Waterproof or watertight: what’s the difference?

For clothing, waterproofness is measured in Schmerber: at 10,000 Schmerber, the fabric withstands a 10,000 mm water column. “Watertight” mainly describes seams and zips: if they aren’t sealed or protected, water can get in through them.

How do I care for a waterproof jacket?

Wash it with a detergent for technical clothing, without fabric conditioner, then restore its water repellency when water stops beading on the surface.
