They refer to the water column rating, also measured in Schmerber: the water pressure the fabric can withstand before water passes through. The CIMASHELL CASCADE F and STORM 3 F have a rating of 10,000 mm; the three-layer Ultrashell COSMIQUES 2 F, ADVANCED 4 F and GUIDE PRO F have a rating of 20,000 mm. The second figure, in g/m²/24h, indicates how much water vapour passes through one square metre of fabric in 24 hours: 80,000 for these three Ultrashell models.

On the slopes, choose an insulated ski jacket: the OISANS 3 F combines a 20,000 mm CIMASHELL membrane, CIMATHERM insulation and a RECCO reflector, and weighs 1,020 g in size S. For ski touring, the effort keeps you warm: choose an uninsulated Ultrashell jacket such as the 370 g ADVANCED 4 F, and keep a down jacket in your pack for breaks.

Choose a three-layer Ultrashell jacket with a helmet-compatible hood: the GUIDE PRO F weighs 600 g and has shoulder reinforcements and a RECCO reflector. For stops in the cold, add a down jacket with helmet compatibility and CIMACUIN 800 cuin down fill, ranging from 250 g for the CHULU F to 510 g for the KHUMBU F.

First, check the water column rating required by your race rules. The STORM 3 F weighs 185 g in size S and has a 10,000 Schmerber CIMASHELL membrane; the STORM PRO F weighs 260 g, has a three-layer 20,000 Schmerber Ultrashell construction and a hood with a stiff peak. If you only need wind protection, the SKIN VESTE 3 F windproof jacket weighs just 100 g.
