What size should I choose?

Choose your usual size or, if in doubt, the slightly larger size: that’s Meindl’s advice. Try them on in the afternoon with your hiking socks, leaving about 1 cm of space at the toes. The size guide gives foot length in millimetres for each size.

What is their Meindl category?

Meindl classifies them as category B, for ‘classic’ trekking: long hikes and comfortable walking on easy alpine terrain, including rough paths. Meindl only mentions crampon compatibility from category BC upwards (lightweight crampons).

What is MFS Vakuum® technology?

Meindl’s system combines a stable outer upper with a very flexible inner upper, lined with foam that moulds to the foot around the ankle, collar and tongue. The memory-foam insole also conforms to the foot.

Are they really waterproof?

Yes: the GORE-TEX lining is waterproof and breathable. It keeps feet dry on wet trails and in the rain, but it is not designed for immersion.

What socks should you wear?

Mid-calf to calf-length merino wool socks protect the ankle beneath the high-cut upper. According to Meindl, the GORE-TEX lining can only breathe properly with breathable, cotton-free socks.

How much do they weigh?

800g per boot, or 1600g per pair.

How should I care for these shoes?

After each outing, brush off dirt and clean with lukewarm water. Do not machine-wash the boots. Leave them to air-dry away from direct sunlight and radiators; newspaper inside can help if the lining is wet. For the leather, Meindl recommends regular waxing with Meindl Sportwax. Avoid oil and grease, which can weaken the boot. Waxing changes the leather's appearance.

Yes, provided the upper is in good condition. Meindl says all its hiking, trekking and mountain boots can be resoled by a cobbler or through a Meindl retailer. Any repair voids the GORE-TEX “Guaranteed to keep you dry” guarantee.

I am very happy with this purchase, the product is excellent. I just wore them new during a 6 days hike in the Alps (15 to 25 km and 1000 to 1300 m of positive altitude difference per day). The rigid sole brings comfort and stability, especially on rocky paths and scree, and the grip is very good: you almost don't feel the edges of the stones, even at the end of the day, the sole grips well on the slopes and I almost didn't twist my foot during this week (unlike my former shoes with semi-rigid soles). The insole is pleasant, no feeling of my heel tendonitis at the end of the healing process. The comfort is undeniable: no rubbing on the toes, no blisters. The laces allow you to tighten or loosen your feet when going downhill or uphill. I chose to take a size larger than the one I usually wear (45 instead of 44) and I don't regret it: my toes never touch the tip of the shoes during steep descents. I could not test the waterproofness of the shoe because of rain, but nothing to complain about when crossing rivers. The shoe is warm on the foot, I preferred to wear socks not too thick. And on top of that, they are beautiful.
