Frequently asked questions

Choose your usual size or, if in doubt, the slightly larger size: that’s Meindl’s advice. Try them on in the afternoon with your hiking socks, leaving about 1 cm of space at the toes. The size guide gives foot length in millimetres for each size.

Meindl classifies them as a standard fit, neither narrow nor wide.

Yes: the GORE-TEX lining is waterproof and breathable. It protects the foot on wet trails and in the rain, but is not designed for immersion.

Not because of the membrane: feet sweat anyway. According to Meindl, the breathability of the GORE-TEX lining only helps if your socks are breathable and contain no cotton.

They combine suede leather and mesh, an open-weave fabric that helps air reach the foot. The lining is GORE-TEX.

430g per shoe in size 38, or 860g per pair.

After each outing, brush off dirt and clean the shoes with lukewarm water. Do not machine-wash them. Remove the insole to air it, then leave everything to dry naturally, away from direct sunlight and radiators; newspaper inside can help if the lining is wet. To waterproof the leather and textile parts, Meindl recommends a suitable spray, such as Meindl WetProof, reapplied regularly. It advises against oils and grease, which can weaken the shoe.

It’s Meindl’s heel-lacing system: a free-moving strap, the ‘speed wire’, tightens evenly around the heel as you lace up, keeping it in place.
