Mandatory Waterproof Clothing for the UTMB®

Mandatory Waterproof Clothing for the UTMB®

27 Jul. 2026

Les vêtements imperméables obligatoires pour l'UTMB®

When drawing up your list of clothing to pack for the UTMB®, waterproof garments are the top priority: they must meet the race regulations and your protection needs.

What does the race regulations say?

The UTMB® regulations require every runner to carry a hooded jacket made with a waterproof and breathable membrane, capable of withstanding bad weather in the mountains. A minimum of 20,000 Schmerber is required for waterproofing. The hood must be integrated or attached to the jacket using a system originally designed by the manufacturer, and the seams must be taped. For the lower body, the regulations require long-leg running trousers or tights, paired with waterproof overtrousers, or alternatively a fully waterproof pair of long-leg trousers. These items may be checked at race bib collection: without the correct gear, you may be refused entry to the start.

Which jacket should you choose?

At Cimalp, the Storm Pro meets these requirements thanks to its 3-layer Ultrashell® membrane: waterproofing of 20,000 Schmerber, breathability of 80,000 g/m²/24h, resistance to strong winds of 60–90 km/h, all backed by a lifetime repair guarantee. It is available in a men's version (Storm Pro 4H, 290 g in size M) and a women's version (Storm Pro F, 260 g in size S).

Choose a fitted cut, but not too tight, to maintain freedom of movement, particularly around the arms.

Which trousers for the UTMB®?

For the lower body, the Storm Pro Pant overtrousers share the same performance as the jacket: 20,000 Schmerber waterproofing, 80,000 g/m²/24h breathability, wind resistance of 60–90 km/h and a lifetime repair guarantee, weighing 300 g in size M. They can be worn alone or over thermal tights in cold conditions. Currently available in a men's cut.
