When putting together your race pack for the UTMB®, clothing plays a major role: it must protect you from a range of weather risks while keeping you comfortable during the race. That is why the choice of clothing for the UTMB® must be planned ahead — ideally several months before the event — so you can test everything in real conditions and get used to it.

Mandatory waterproof clothing for the race
The UTMB® regulations require waterproof clothing that must be carried in your race pack. These items are designed to protect you in bad weather (rain and snow) and must meet precise standards. They are likely to be inspected before the start, and if you do not have the correct waterproof clothing, you may be refused entry. These two garments are a waterproof jacket with hood and waterproof trousers. They must offer a minimum waterproofing of 20,000 Schmerber and meet specific requirements. Choose them carefully, as their quality will be paramount if the race takes place in adverse weather conditions where discomfort is amplified and muscle fatigue often greater.

The UTMB® kit
The choice of clothing for the UTMB® naturally varies from one runner to another, depending on personal preferences and habits. However, it must include certain essential garments for your comfort and performance. This UTMB® kit must include at least a warm jacket to deal with temperature swings, a technical trail t-shirt, shorts and trail trousers. Of course, you will also add the mandatory waterproof garments mentioned above. A good warm jacket could, for example, be made with technical fabrics to satisfy the most demanding among you. It must be breathable, otherwise your perspiration will not be able to escape and you will feel as though you are in a steam room, paradoxically suffering from excessive humid heat.
Choose a fit that is snug but not restrictive, so you have good freedom of movement — particularly for the arms, which need to stay mobile. For a technical t-shirt, EMANA® fibre is a great choice as it stimulates blood microcirculation and ensures thermoregulation during exercise. CIMALP® t-shirts featuring this fibre provide better muscle support, leaving your muscles less fatigued during effort and less prone to micro-traumatic damage. In the same vein, CIMALP® has developed running trousers and shorts for both running and trail that deliver optimal muscle support. Their construction, thanks to its patented 3D-Flex technology, guarantees excellent freedom of movement and optimal comfort. Find out more:
