In terms of history, it's fair to say the UTMB® has broken numerous records — from participant numbers and distances covered to win tallies and course times.

The participant record
The event is now capped at 10,000 participants across all races, but the number of applications keeps growing, with over 25,000 entries for the 2025 edition. In the flagship race, 2024 saw the highest number of starters, with 2,761 runners setting off from Chamonix. There's no doubt the UTMB®'s popular appeal is holding strong — and that's unlikely to change any time soon!
The victory records
Among the men, 2 runners share this record. The legendary Spanish runner Kilian Jornet and Frenchman François d'Haene have 4 victories each at the UTMB®. On the women's side, it's British runner Lizzy Hawker who holds the most victories with 5 wins!
The speed record
Comparing times across different editions requires caution, as the course has often changed — sometimes even in minor ways. Route adjustments inevitably affect the winner's time. That said, today it is Frenchman François D'Haene who holds the record with a remarkable time of 19 hours, 1 minute and 54 seconds, set at the 2017 edition. Find out more:
The youngest winner record
In 2008, Kilian Jornet won his first UTMB at just 20 years old, running his very first ultra-trail. He even finished over an hour ahead of second place!
The oldest winner
In 2007, a year before Jornet's feat, Italian Marco Olmo claimed victory for the second consecutive year, winning at the age of 58.
