In our full range of running jackets you'll find our waterproof, breathable and windproof jackets: the perfect ally for your races and training sessions in rain, snow or wind.
How to choose your waterproof trail jacket?
- Choosing a jacket compact and lightweight, ideally a jacket that can be packed into one of its own pockets so it takes up as little space as possible when stowed in your trail pack
- Go for a jacket with a waterproof and breathable membrane, with all the taped seams. The jacket's waterproofing must be at least 10,000 schmerbers, it is a mandatory equipment criterion for the biggest trail and ultra races
- Find a jacket with a fitted hood that won't get in the way during a race and will stay firmly in place
- Finally, the jacket must offer the option of mechanical ventilation to avoid condensation forming inside during intense effort — this can be achieved through ventilation zips or a chest clip that allows the jacket to be partially opened.
Follow this advice and find the jacket you need in our selection — head out with confidence, knowing our jackets have been tested and proven by our ambassadors and testers in the biggest trail races in France and around the world.
If despite all this advice you still can't make up your mind, here's the favourite pick of our trail running ambassador Florian Olivier (who has used this jacket across numerous ultra races): the STORM 2 H waterproof trail jacket.
Why a waterproof jacket for running?
A waterproof running jacket will quickly become a must-have if you want to improve and take part in races — here's why:
- So rain is no longer an excuse to skip training! Essential for progressing in trail.
- To test your kit before the race: whether that means wearing the jacket on your back or simply loading it into your trail pack to get used to its weight and bulk
- Because the biggest races you aim for in your career will require a mandatory equipment list — including the essential waterproof jacket with taped seams!
How do I use my waterproof and windproof jacket?
To make sure the jacket performs at its best, here are our tips for using it correctly and getting the full benefit:
- Only wear the jacket when necessary: this may seem obvious, but a waterproof jacket is only useful in the rain or strong wind — otherwise it's better off in your pack, and will stop you overheating and sweating inside it
- When possible, ventilate the jacket using the ventilation zips or by partially opening it to limit condensation build-up inside
- Test the jacket in training before your races — take advantage of a rainy day to run in it and see how it feels
