Faire l’UTMB®

So, the decision is made — a seasoned ultra runner, you've set your sights on the UTMB®! A real challenge for athletes passionate about trail running in one of the most stunning natural settings in the Alps. But taking on the UTMB® requires thorough preparation and a solid knowledge of the race and its environment!

Running the UTMB®

How to prepare for the UTMB?

Preparing for the UTMB involves both physical preparation and a comprehensive training programme, as well as mental preparation — essential for staying resistant and motivated throughout your chosen course. Of course, your preparation will also require a proper nutrition plan to keep you at peak condition and give your body the energy needed to tackle the kilometres and elevation gains without respite. But preparing also means completing qualifying races beforehand so that your entry can be selected in the famous UTMB lottery draw!

Know the race!

If you're planning to run the UTMB, you already have some knowledge of the event. But you'll need to know the race in detail — the different courses available, its regulations and mandatory requirements (kit, safety). Getting to know the UTMB also means familiarising yourself with its history, its roll of honour, the legends who have won it multiple times, and understanding the specifics of the 2023 edition: the live tracking, the ultra-trail expo, and the stars who will be treading the same paths as you!

Planning your stay in Chamonix

There's a whole logistical side to your UTMB preparation. You'll need to plan your stay in Chamonix, choose your mode of transport and sort out accommodation. You'll also need to anticipate your kit requirements — packing your race bag, gathering the mandatory safety and survival equipment, and managing nutrition at aid stations. Don't forget that the UTMB rules allow you to receive assistance at certain points along the course — another aspect to plan and organise. Finally, you'll want to keep an eye on local weather forecasts, and perhaps find activities if you're staying a few extra days in the area, especially if you're coming with family! For more information about the race, visit the official race website.
