On the UTMB, knowing where the aid stations are is not enough. You need to know what you'll find there, so you can decide what to carry and what to leave behind.

Here are the official checkpoints for the 2026 edition with their kilometre markers, followed by the full breakdown of what is served at each one, product by product, with sourcing information and allergens.

The 16 checkpoints of the UTMB® 2026

Runner climbing a staircase trail during UTMB preparation

Starting from Chamonix on Friday 28 August 2026 at 17:45, covering 174 kilometres and 9,900 metres of positive elevation gain.

Point Cumulative km Aid station
Les Houches 9.1 km Full
Saint-Gervais 22.8 km Full
Les Contamines 32.5 km Full
La Balme 41.1 km Liquids only
Les Chapieux 52.2 km Full
Lac Combal 69.5 km Full
Checrouit 78.4 km Full
Courmayeur 83.4 km Full
Refuge Bertone 88.7 km Full
Arnouvaz 101.7 km Full, vegetarian
La Fouly 116.2 km Full
Champex-Lac 130.5 km Full
Trient 147 km Full
Vallorcine 158.4 km Full
La Flégère 169.8 km Full
Chamonix, finish 176.8 km Full

Three useful observations for building your race plan.

La Balme is the only aid station with no solid food offer. It is on the official course but does not appear in the food service table: expect liquids only here.

The Arnouvaz aid station is vegetarian — no charcuterie is available there.

The longest section without an aid station runs from Les Chapieux to Lac Combal, covering 17.2 kilometres with the Col de la Seigne at 2,516 metres in the middle. This is the stretch where you need to be self-sufficient. Next come Trient from Champex-Lac at 16.5 kilometres, and La Fouly from Arnouvaz at 14.5 kilometres.

What you will find at every single aid station

A core range of products is available at every full aid station across all races. This is the reliable foundation on which to build your strategy.

Category Products available everywhere
Drinks Water, instant coffee, tea
Sports nutrition NAAK BOOST drink neutral flavour, NAAK salted caramel and red berry waffles
Hot Gluten-free vegetable broth
Sweet Organic chocolate cookies, fruit cake, organic honey gingerbread, sugar cubes
Savoury TUC crackers, salt
Fruit Bananas, watermelons

NAAK is the official nutrition partner and the only sports nutrition brand distributed on the course. If their products don't work for you, you'll need to carry your own: no alternatives are provided.

Three other hot products round out the offer at the majority of aid stations: thick vermicelli, rice and pasta. Contrary to popular belief, hot food is not restricted to just two or three major life bases.

The rare products, and those found at only one location

Some products are only served at a few stations across the entire Mont-White race network. Worth knowing if you were counting on them.

Product Number of stations concerned
Local vegetable soup 1 only
Diots de Savoie 1 only
Raclette as a hot dish 1 only
Reblochon 1 only
Savoie fruit juices 3
Buckwheat crozets 3
Focaccia 3
Toblerone 4
Melon 4
NAAK BOOST gel 5
Apple and pear compote 5
NAAK bars 7

The key point for your race plan: NAAK gels are only available at five aid stations, and bars at seven. If your nutrition strategy relies on gels, you need to carry them.

Local specialities, country by country

This is an aspect of the UTMB that few runners anticipate: the character of the aid stations changes at every border. The organisation sources its supplies from cooperatives and local farms in each of the three countries on the route.

Country Local specialities served
France Beaufort, tomme de Savoie and de Montroc, farmhouse cow's milk tomme from the Chamonix valley and Val Montjoie, sheep's and goat's milk tomme, reblochon, diots de Savoie, buckwheat crozets, saucisson, apple juice, pear juice and apple-strawberry juice
Italy Fontina, focaccia, Italian charcuterie, Tegole biscuits, pasta, watermelons and lemons
Switzerland Raclette cheese, raclette as a hot dish, Swiss charcuterie, Toblerone

Bread comes from local bakeries, and a significant proportion of the products are identified as sourced from the Pays du Mont-White region. Swiss raclette and diots de Savoie are each served at only one aid station: these are the two gastronomic highlights of the course, and they are worth earning.

Allergens: what you can eat if you have an intolerance

The organisation documents the allergens for each product. This information is rarely highlighted, yet it is critical when you are racing for more than twenty hours.

If you are gluten intolerant

Good news: the vegetable broth is explicitly gluten-free and available at every aid station. It is your reliable hot option.

Also safe: rice, cheeses, charcuterie, fruit, dates, sugar, coffee and tea.

To avoid: all pasta, vermicelli, crozets, bread, TUC crackers, focaccia, cookies, cake, gingerbread, butter biscuits, cereal bars, Tegole, and all NAAK bars and waffles.

Other declared allergens

Allergen Products concerned
Milk All cheeses, cookies, butter biscuits, Toblerone, Tegole, dark chocolate, focaccia
Eggs Cookies, fruit cake, butter biscuits, crozets, Tegole, TUC crackers
Soya NAAK bars and waffles, Toblerone, dark chocolate
Peanuts NAAK chocolate and peanut bars, oat and honey cereal bars
Nuts NAAK chocolate and peanut bars, NAAK berry and nut bars
Almond Toblerone
Sulphites French, Italian and Swiss charcuterie

One thing to note: dark chocolate is declared as containing milk and soya. Don't count on it if this affects you.

What the rules say

Only runners displaying a race bib on their chest or stomach, their timing chip on their backpack, and their wristband are permitted to access aid stations and crew points.

For refilling bottles and hydration bladders, the organisation provides only still water or the energy drink. All other drinks — cola, sparkling water, coffee or tea — must be consumed on-site.

A final reminder of a rule that affects all your logistics: a reusable cup is mandatory. No disposable containers are distributed on the course.

Each checkpoint also has an associated cut-off time, detailed in our dedicated article.

Frequently asked questions

How many aid stations are there on the UTMB?

Sixteen checkpoints for the 2026 edition, from Les Houches at kilometre 9.1 through to the finish in Chamonix. Fifteen offer full catering; La Balme is the only liquids-only station.

Where is the longest section without an aid station on the UTMB?

Between Les Chapieux and Lac Combal, covering 17.2 kilometres crossing the Col de la Seigne at 2,516 metres.

Which nutrition brand is distributed on the UTMB?

NAAK, official partner. BOOST drink, waffles, bars and gels. The only sports nutrition brand on the course.

Is there a vegetarian aid station on the UTMB?

Yes. The Arnouvaz aid station, at kilometre 101.7, is identified as vegetarian in the official race organisation documents.

Can you eat gluten-free at the UTMB aid stations?

Yes, but the options are limited. Gluten-free vegetable broth is available at every aid station, supplemented by rice, cheeses, charcuterie, fruit and dates. However, no NAAK products are suitable.

Can you refill your hydration bladder with cola or tea?

No. Only still water and the energy drink are provided for refilling. All other drinks must be consumed at the aid station.
