A former doctor of materials engineering, Maryline left her career to devote herself fully to her passion: trail-running. Today, she is a running coach and lives in her converted van. She has been racing for several years, specialising mainly in long distances, though she loves varying terrain types and taking on new challenges, sometimes even at shorter distances.

Her biggest flaw: she doesn't know how to rest, which her coach doesn't always appreciate. When she's not running, she goes on treks, multi-day cycling tours or ski touring in winter.

Her motto: enjoyment above all else!

Interview with Maryline Nakache

3 words that define you as an athlete?

Enjoyment. Discovery. Pushing beyond your limits.

3 values that define you as a person?

Passion, tolerance, the joy of living.

Why do you feel you belong to the Cimalp family?

Cimalp is more than just a brand offering high-performance and innovative products. Above all, it's a big family made up of people who are passionate about the mountains and nature. Ecology and sustainable development are topics that matter deeply to everyone here. I share all these values, and that's why I'm thrilled to have joined the team!

Your best and worst memory in the mountains, and why?

The best: an 11-day solo trek in Nepal with several summits above 5,000m. Total immersion, breathtaking landscapes, incredible people — I pushed myself to navigate and climb the peaks with my heavy pack. An adventure that will stay with me for life… The worst: I don't have one!

What do the mountains inspire in you?

Freedom, wild nature… the pleasure of reaching summits under your own steam!

What is your relationship with the environment and ecology?

Preserving the environment is very important, and everyone can contribute through small, simple everyday actions. For example, I favour local and seasonal products and try to limit non-recyclable packaging. I also cycle for some longer journeys, such as visiting friends or family. In winter, unless absolutely necessary, I never turn on the heating — and in summer I never use air conditioning. It's simply a matter of dressing appropriately!

Another great passion / talent beyond sport?

Reading, travel, and coaching people in building their confidence and progressing.
