An athlete at the Italian Military Sports Centre, Matteo Eydallin is a true mountain lover! 2021 Ski Mountaineering World Champion, this Italian Cimalp ambassador has more than one trick up his sleeve.

While he collects ski trophies, this lover of mountain passes and elevation gain is equally passionate about cycling, trail, climbing, and keeps pushing to reach the finest summits. You get the picture: verticality is his lifeblood!

Another defining trait of our Italian ambassador? His fierce will to win. For years, he chased the World Champion title without success — always a minor injury, an unfair penalty... It was starting to feel like a curse. But in 2021, he finally claimed the title. A true achievement for this relentless competitor.

Key Achievement

  • Ski Mountaineering World Champion – Individual Race 2021
  • Ski Mountaineering World Champion – Team Race 2023
  • Italian Champion 2023 for the 8th time
  • 2 Overall World Cup victories
  • 20 victories at the Grande Course (6 Mezzalama / 5 Pierra Menta / 4 Tour du Rutor / 3 Adamello / 2 Patrouilles des Glaciers)

Future projects

2021 gave me wings! The inclusion of ski-mountaineering on the Milan 2026 Olympic programme as a "demonstration sport" also gives me something to aim for. Being part of the Italian team would be a huge source of pride. At 36, I still have the drive of a junior.

Interview with Matteo Eydallin

3 words that define you as an athlete?

Laid-back. Passion. Grinta!

3 values that define you as a person?

A flamboyant personality, kindness, authenticity.

Why do you feel you belong to the Cimalp family?

For several reasons. On one hand, thanks to the bond built with the brand's team. On the other, for Cimalp's values. We share the same idea of the mountains, of "nature" pursuits, the same respect for people, athletes, mountain professionals. There are no borders between the Italian Alps and the French Alps. We are part of the same territory, the same family. And that is what I find in the CIMALP Family.

Your best and worst memory in the mountains, and why?

During my first victory at the Pierra Menta, in 2009, I suffered a hypoglycaemic episode. One of the hardest days of my life. The best is yet to come, because the prospect of the next day in the mountains is the best prospect there is!

What do the mountains inspire in you?

Verticality. I love clocking up the elevation — first in Ski mountaineering, then in summer, alternating climbing at Céüse, cycling over the nearby cols, and logging vertical kilometres on the trail.

What is your relationship with the environment and ecology?

Less is more! I live in France in a very rural village, I keep animals, I garden, I buy local, I don't have a smartphone. I am therefore extremely sensitive to respecting the world we live in, but I take the view that the best way to reduce our footprint is to consume less and stay well away from the "giant whirlpools".

Another great passion / talent besides sport?

Climbing, of course!
