Olivier Bigini

Athlete

Olivier, passionate about climbing since childhood, lives his passion to the fullest in the heart of the Alps. A high-mountain rescue officer at the PGHM in Chamonix, his daily work is dedicated to saving lives in the most extreme conditions. Alongside this, Olivier works as a high-mountain guide, sharing his love of climbing and the summits with those heading out on adventure.

Key Achievement

Consecutive ascent of the 6 Areu Towers in under 24 hours (1,150 m of climbing, 22h30 of effort, 37 pitches).
Consecutive ascent of "Biografiz" in one push (330 m, 8a max, 7b obligatory)
Max grade 8b+ (Old Up at Doran).

3 words that define you as an athlete?

Passionate, persevering, ambitious.

3 values that define you as a person?

Principled, generous, considerate.

Why do you feel you belong to the Cimalp family?

I identify completely with its values: performance, a sense of family and respect for the environment.

What is your best and worst mountain memory, and why?

My best memory: the day I completed the 6 Areu Towers link-up in under 24 hours, because I shared it with 3 friends. On top of that, it was an effort I loved, right on my doorstep in a setting I particularly cherish! My worst memory: the Couturier couloir on the north face of the Aiguille Verte, where I thought I had lost my roped partner.

What do the mountains inspire in you?

They inspire in me a sense of freedom, the possibility to express myself and to escape.

What is your relationship with the environment and ecology?

I try to respect it as best I can, even if there is always room for improvement.

Another great passion or talent beyond sport?

Climbing has always been my passion. The call of the mountains came later. My other passion is my daughter Mila.
