Among the essential accessories to pack in your race vest for the UTMB®, all the safety and survival gear that is absolutely necessary for this type of event features prominently.

Mandatory survival and safety equipment
On the safety side, the UTMB® race regulations state that you must carry:
- A mobile phone with an option enabling its use in all three countries (France, Switzerland, Italy). You must also save the organisation's emergency numbers in the phone's contacts. It is essential to keep your phone switched on, not to hide your number, and not to forget to set off with a fully charged battery. You may also want to bring a spare battery or a power bank.
- A whistle: which will allow you to raise the alarm in the event of a problem and help rescuers locate you during a search.
- Elastic adhesive bandage: this must be sufficient to apply a bandage or strapping of at least 100 cm long by 6 cm wide
- A survival blanket of at least 1.40m x 2m to keep you warm in the event of injury or failure.
- 2 torches in good working order with spare batteries or a spare battery pack for each torch. It is recommended to have a minimum lighting capacity of 200 lumens for the main torch to ensure sufficient brightness and visibility.
- Finally, photo ID can be added to the list of mandatory safety items
