Coming from a sporting background (judo then football), Sylvain is a PE teacher. He discovered outdoor sports (mountain biking, hiking, climbing) in 2010, and in particular Trail Running.

Quickly, the sport became a passion — driven by that feeling of freedom in the mountains and the trail spirit he holds especially dear.

But what motivates Sylvain even more is running to raise awareness for the association Vaincre Parkinson and to shine a light on the disease.

Interview with Sylvain Perrin

3 words that define you as an athlete?

Courageous. Resilient. Combative.

3 values that define you as a person?

Humility, altruism, listening.

Why do you feel you belong to the Cimalp family?

I fully identify with the brand's eco-responsible commitments and values. And the Cimalp Team brings together humble, warm-hearted athletes with whom we share great moments and memorable adventures.

Your best and worst memory in the mountains — and why?

Remarkably, it was during the same race that I experienced both my worst and best memory. At kilometre 30 of the UTCAM, I suffered a severe ankle sprain. Tests revealed a ligament tear. In a split second, I saw the goal I had been preparing for — with all the sacrifices, the hours of training it involved, and the commitment of my loved ones who had come to support me through the night — seem to crumble around me. That's when I told myself I couldn't give up: I found my family at the next aid station in tears and decided to carry on. With that ankle, I managed to run 90 km in first place before being overtaken on the final descent. But the joy was overwhelming: crossing that finish line with my loved ones and the banner of the association I support, reaching my goal… What joy, what happiness.

What do the mountains inspire in you?

A way to escape, to move freely through magnificent natural spaces. This environment stirs deep emotions in me. Nature is a place of encounter, of pleasure — an exceptional yet fragile environment, one that is shared. I therefore care deeply about preserving it, maintaining its balance, our playground, which is also and above all a place teeming with life — animals and plants alike.

What's your relationship with the environment and ecology?

I feel strongly about this. Humbly, I try in my everyday actions to limit my ecological impact and reduce my carbon footprint — favouring short supply chains and running litter-picking initiatives with the secondary school students I raise awareness with.

Another great passion or talent beyond sport?

I am actively involved with the association Vaincre Parkinson.
